How Nigerian Businesses Can Accept International Card Payments and Stablecoins

Nigerian businesses selling abroad face FX delays and limited dollar access. Stablecoin settlement and card-to-crypto checkout let foreign customers pay by card while you receive USDC.

Nigeria has one of the world's highest rates of stablecoin adoption, and for good reason: businesses that earn in dollars want to keep value in dollars, and moving money in and out of the country through banks can be slow and expensive.

Local gateways like Paystack and Flutterwave are excellent for collecting naira from Nigerian customers. Collecting from international customers in dollars, without delays and conversions, is where many businesses look for alternatives.

The stablecoin approach

  • Direct stablecoin payments. Customers who hold USDT or USDC pay you directly. USDT on TRON and USDC on Polygon or Solana cost cents to send.
  • Card-to-crypto checkout. International customers pay by card through a licensed provider available in their country; you receive USDC in your wallet.

In both cases the dollar value reaches you on-chain, in a wallet you control, within minutes.

What your foreign customer sees

A payment page with your product and price and a card button — card-only mode hides crypto entirely. The provider handles the card and any identity checks on its side.

Testing from Nigeria

Card providers are chosen by the payer's location. Card coverage for payers inside Nigeria is thin, so a test card payment made from Nigeria — or with a card issued there — often fails, even though customers in the US, UK or EU are offered a much wider set of providers. For a realistic test, use a card and location from the country your customers are in. Vulta's dashboard shows this note automatically when you're testing from a limited-coverage country.

Getting started

  1. Create a free Vulta account — email only, no company documents.
  2. Add a USDC (Polygon) wallet for card payments, plus any crypto wallets you want (USDT on TRON is popular and cheap).
  3. Create a payment link: Card only for mainstream buyers, Card + Crypto for everyone.

Vulta takes 0% of payments; plans are Free, Pro ($20/month) and Max ($49/month). Always check how your local rules treat income received in digital assets and declare it for tax as required.

Frequently asked questions

Can I receive dollars without a domiciliary account?

Stablecoins like USDC and USDT keep dollar value in your own wallet, without a bank account involved.

Should I still use Paystack or Flutterwave?

For naira payments from Nigerian customers, local gateways are usually the best fit. Use Vulta for international card buyers and stablecoin payments.

How do I convert stablecoins to naira?

Through a reputable exchange or P2P market that serves Nigeria. Check fees and limits before choosing one.

Do my foreign customers need to know about crypto?

No. On a card-only link they see a normal card checkout.
